This exhibition was significant to the understanding of the history and contributions of Muslims in Australia.

For the Muslim community it was a unique and historic moment. It was the first time their history was being acknowledged and celebrated by important cultural institutions in Australia. 

The exhibition was prepared by the Australian Muslim Community in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and the Museum of Victoria. 

The exhibition was led by Dr. Abdul Khaliq Kazi, Professor of Islamic Studies, Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, The University of Melbourne.

annette welkamp, director of cultural connotations, was engaged to

  • develop the exhibition themes, contents and public programmes
  • undertake the strategic and financial planning, and manage the project
  • act as the interface between the University, the Islamic community and the museums

visiting fellowship - hong kong
