The objects were loaned from the collection of the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, the Netherlands. Ancient Lives highlighted aspects of the lives of the ancient Greeks, Romans and Etruscans. These cultures continue to influence us to this day. The exhibition spanned some eleven centures from 700 bce to 400. They related to the universal themes of the gods, the after-life, and days of politics, war, childhood, eating and drinking.

Public programmes included the Sunday Forum, Ancient Amusements for adults, Jumpin' Jupiter for kids, Epic Theatrette and the Caesar's Palace Activities Room.
